Ready to embark on an unforgettable adventure? The RYA Competent Crew course is your gateway to the exciting world of sailing. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience with dinghies or keelboats, this course is the perfect introduction to life on the water.
What Will You Learn?
Gain the skills and confidence to be an essential member of a yacht crew! During this hands-on course, you’ll:
- Steer a yacht and handle sails.
- Learn about the boat’s structure, rigging, and essential safety equipment.
- Practice knot-tying, using winches, and handling lines.
- Develop key safety skills, including man-overboard recovery.
- Anchor, moor, and explore various harbours and bays.
- Experience night sailing under the stars for an unforgettable perspective of the sea.
- Understand the basics of weather forecasting and how it shapes sailing plans.
- Familiarize yourself with navigation rules and sailing etiquette.
Your 5-Day Sailing Journey
Your adventure beginsat 9 AM on the first day when you’ll step aboard and meet your friendly instructor. After a safety briefing and orientation, it’s time to hoist the sails and head into the beautiful waters of Geographe Bay. Explore stunning destinations like Quindalup, Castle Rock, Meelup, Eagle Bay, Bunker Bay, and Koombana Bay in Bunbury. Enjoy relaxed lunches on the water and refreshing swims in pristine bays. Evenings are spent in marinas, at anchor, or moored under the stars, with one special night reserved for magical night sailing.

- The RYA Competent Crew certificate upon completion.
- Onboard accommodation and all meals. The option to purchase the RYA Competent Crew Skills handbook for a head start.
We’ll provide detailed joining instructions before your course, including a list of essentials to bring. Please note accommodation is shared, with berths allocated on arrival. Some students may be assigned a berth in the saloon.
