RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Online Theory Course

RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Online Theory Course
From AUD $675.00
  • Duration: 50 Hours (approx.)

What will I learn?

Following on from the RYA Dayskipper Theory course, this is an advanced navigation course that will cover all the theory required to Yachtmaster standard.  This course will include meteorology, collision regulations as well as advanced chart work and vessel stability. It will teach you the collision regulations for night sailing, passage planning and pilotage techniques to get you in and out of harbours at night. You should have completed day skipper theory before you start Coastal / Yachtmaster theory or have equivalent knowledge

Even if you have a lot of practical experience with sailing this course can be very difficult if you do not have a reasonable knowledge of chart-work to Day Skipper level.

At the end of the course you will have covered the navigation skills required to enter coastal ports by day or night and to undertake coastal passages in variable weather conditions. The course will take about 50 hours of study with an online assessment at the end.

The course covers:

  • Day skipper revision
  • Secondary port tidal height calculations
  • Advanced chart work including tidal stream calculations and application of leeway
  • Meteorology including cold fronts and weather systems
  • Collision regulations including lights, sounds and shapes
  • Passage planning
  • Buoyage and pilotage techniques
  • Instruction and support provided by an Oceanwest RYA Instructor, online course provided by Navathome Australia
